Talk To Me: Video Games

hey y'all this is a new thing that got some votes on the poll so i'll be doing these every now and then. when i do one of these posts, i'll grab between 3-4 podcasts, talk about them, go through good points and bad, and tell you whether it's worth giving it a listen. todays theme is video games, so without further ado, let's get started.

so, i'm going to start us off with one of my personal favorites: the Roosterteeth Podcast. if you're not a gamer, and/or don't do anything on youtube, you probably haven't heard of Roosterteeth. Roosterteeth makes shorts for the internet and they do a podcast on the side. this is probably the most diverse podcast i'll showcase here as they don't just talk about video games, but also current events, movies, TV shows, and lots of crude humor. my fiance is not as thrilled with this pod cast as i am, but i think part of that is that i'm a guy.

next is Video Game Music and Remixes (VGMR for short). this podcast is all about... video game music. yeah, it's pretty self explanitory. so this podcast showcases music from a variety of different games, and remixes of some songs. now, i'm not sure if they are still casting pods, as the last entry was early september, and they were pretty regular before that, but they have a fairly extensive back catalogue of music, so you should be able to keep yourself in jams for a while.

now, Weekend Confirmed is another like the Roosterteeth Podcast, but more focused on the aspect of video games, however being more focused allows them to be more in depth. it's a pretty long podcast, with the one i picked up clocking in at just over two hours, so there is a lot of substance here for those that are like me and like to listen to and absorb information to occupy the mind. they also generally have early access to a lot of stuff, so they get to do a lot of previews and give new details on stuff.

i checked out Lost in EVE as i was checking out the game EVE Online as a result of my preview of Dust 514. Lost in EVE is all about the EVE universe and follows big galaxy spanning events happening in real time, as well as political machinations of the CCP and corporations throughout EVE. it's pretty good but can get a little dry at times. there is a lot of info to help players stay up to speed, but if you are not playing EVE Online, you probably don't care.

finally, Video Game News. VGN is like a shorter version of Weeken Confirmed. it's by different people, and the actual content is different, but they talk about some of the same stuff, and in generally the same format. this is perfect for those who don't want to listen to such a long podcast, but still want their video game fix.

so, ultimately, talking about them doesn't do anybody any good, if i don't tell you what's worth it and what's not (time is valuable after all) so:
Roosterteeth Podcast: a must, every time i listen i want it to go longer. it's also now in video form for live stream if you become a sponser.
VGMR: if you like soundtracks, this is definitely a gem. not only are the originals posted, but a lot of remixes are out there too.
Weekend Confirmed: not as funny as RT, but still entertaining, and just as knowledgeable. perhaps not as charismatic as some, but good quality.
VGN: structured a lot like Weekend Confirmed, but shorter. if WC isn't enough for you, this makes a good add on, if WC is too much, this is a good replacement.
Lost in EVE: unfortunately this is only for a niche market. granted, that niche happens to be the biggest MMO community in the world, but unless you're in it, i'd pass.
